Hospital high-ups examine OPD patients

Amidst an ongoing protest strike by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) for the past week. Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) VC Dr Zafar Choudhary and Allied Hospital MS Dr Faheem Yousaf reopened the outpatient department (OPD) and examined patients along with other senior doctors. The local chapter of the YDA has been observing a strike in protest against the orders of the suspension of senior management officials of the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital after the death of nine children because of gas leakage from the air conditioning system in a ward. The Punjab YDA had announced a strike and shut down the OPDs of major hospitals across the province in protest against the suspension of doctors. Thousands of patients visit the OPD of the Allied Hospital daily from areas around the city, especially those unable to afford the fees of private health facilities. According to hospital officials, the VC along with surgeons and heads of departments has bene checking patients for the past two days. The VC said about 7,000 patients had been examined in two days and their medical tests advised. He said the Punjab government had withdrawn the suspension of senior management officials of the Sahiwal hospital.
