Rawalpindi deports over 2,200 Afghans

The district administration and police have deported a total of 2,278 Afghan nationals from Rawalpindi over the past two months. Additionally, 1,815 Afghan individuals and their family members were released from detention centres after presenting legal documents proving their lawful entry into Pakistan. On Friday, Afghan national Wali Jan, who was allegedly involved in various crimes including, murder and assault in Rawalpindi, was formally deported and handed over to Afghan authorities at the Torkham border. Due to the Ashura and Muharram activities, the Afghan Centre at the Hajj Complex has been temporarily closed for two days. It will reopen on Monday, July 7. Earlier this month, the district administration and police, in a joint operation, arrested and deported 205 Afghans who had illegally entered Pakistan. A young Afghan, who was taken into custody, injured himself by hitting his head with iron bars for not being released and deported. Furthermore, the district administration released 155 arrested Afghan families and youths as they had visa travel documents.
