A two-day Basant Festival was held at the scenic and touristic spot near the ancient Jamia Masjid Rajgan, on the banks of Khanpur Dam. The sky turned colourful as locals and tourists flew brightly coloured kites. The sound of kite flyers' cheers took over the area, intermingling with music and adding to the lively atmosphere. Festivalgoers danced to the beat while chanting slogans and enjoyed tasty food. Families did barbeque and ate mutton karahi as they turned the weekend into a waterside picnic. Kite flyers from all over Pakistan as well as foreigners participated in the Basant Mela. The festival proved to be a popular leisure activity for youngsters as well as families and children. Activities including boating, jet skiing and scenic photography were also especially arranged for tourists. The organisers had made strict security arrangements and arranged for rescue teams to be nearby in case of any emergencies. Foreign tourists participating in the fair appreciated Pakistan's culture and hospitality and said that Basant is a beautiful cultural festival that is a symbol of happiness and colours. Basant is a traditional spring festival celebrated in the subcontinent through kite flying and other activities. The festival was organised by a private company with the cooperation of the local administration to celebrate the festive spirit of Basant. Families at the festival praised the district administration for providing citizens with an opportunity to engage in healthy activities in a safe and peaceful environment. They said that if the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government begins organising the Basant Mela officially, it would be possible to attract with a beautiful setting which attracted both local foreign tourists and showed the potential well organised events have for the local economy. Khanpur Dam is a popular site for recreational activities which people enjoy throughout the year. It holds great promise for becoming a centre of tourism if developed properly. According to the organisers, the aim of the fair was not only to provide a healthy entertainment for the people but also to promote tourism. Locals also said that such activities not only increase the charm of the area but also promote business activities.
